This final update contains valuable information regarding the 5430 Boulder Kids Triathlon which will take place Saturday, August 8. We suggest saving this email for reference again prior to Saturday (vs. printing out and using paper).
We are anticipating approximately 500 competitors on race day. We look forward to having you with us and please feel free to contact us with any questions.
1. Packet pick up is available Thursday 8/6 and Friday 8/7 at Fleet Feet Sports (2624 Broadway St.) from 10:30am to 5:30pm. You are urged to pick up your packet there; however, if necessary, packets will be available on race morning from 6:00 to 6:45 am. Come early as there will be a line.
* You must bring your child’s current USA Triathlon card to packet pick up (USAT regulations). If you do not have a valid card with you, and have not pre-paid the $5 license fee, you will be required to sign up for the annual license at packet pick-up ($5.00 cash). You can go to the USAT website (click here) to print a temporary card if you have not yet received your child’s card. If you paid the $5 fee when you registered - we will have that recorded and you will not be required to show a current membership card.
* Your child will receive their race number at packet pick up. The bib number must be worn on the front of their body during the entire run portion of the event (and must be on and visible prior to leaving the TA). They will be body marked on race morning before the swim in the Transition Area.
2. Please be aware that there is an important pre-race meeting at 7 am, and your child should set up their “transition area” prior to this meeting. The Transition Area is where they place their bike and running shoes (and helmet!!!!) for when they “transition’ to the bike and run. Valuable information regarding the event will be presented at the meeting, and you will have the opportunity to ask questions.
3. Please visit the race website prior to Saturday and read through the information there, paying particular attention to the information at www.5430sports.com/BPkidstri/rules
4. Course Maps - The maps and description of the courses are posted online. There will also be maps on site on race day.
5. Please be sure to have water and sunscreen available for your child.
6. The Boulder Kids Triathlon is a true non-competitive event. It is meant to introduce and encourage kids to participate in triathlon, be fit, and health conscious. We do not time the event, as all kids truly become winners by crossing the finish line … and we mean it!
7. We will have music, an announcer, snacks after the event for the kids, and even some fun, special surprises to keep everyone busy. In addition, the swim beach will be open all day; so, perhaps, plan on spending some time after the race on the beach.
8. We do encourage you to arrive between 5:45 and 6:30 to get organized, set up your Transition Area, and to be comfortably available for the 7 am meeting. In order for the morning to run smoothly, please park as instructed by our Volunteer parking staff (parking is free). Also, please be aware that we will start with our youngest competitors first, and progress through to the older participants. As such, parents are encouraged to bring snacks and such for yourself or any other siblings not competing, as you may get hungry, and the post-race food is for the triathletes only.

We have several openings for volunteers for the Kids Traithlon anytime between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 10:30 am. Please email Alicia at anhoegh@comcast.net. Let her know when you will be available and if you have any preference as to where you would like to help
If you have volunteered in the past – thanks! We’d love to have you join us again!
Remember, we do have the big season-ending, Volunteer Bash in September or October --- free beer, food, and tons of giveaways. Last year, virtually, all volunteers at the party walked away with something (including sunglasses, watches, shirts, etc.).
So, please do consider helping the little triathletes become self confident athletes - Thanks!
Again, hopefully, all your questions can be answered by the website and/or the helpful folks at Fleet Feet Sports upon picking up your packets. Our 7 am meeting on Saturday will handle the rest of your questions, but, please, do feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
Thank you so much for your support. See you Saturday!
