A triathlon is a swimming, bicycling, and running competition. Each triathlete will swim first, go directly to bicycling, and finish the competition running. NO EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. This is a fantastic opportunity for your child to participate in an enjoyable, low-key, life-experience through athletics. The athletes will be on the road to a healthy active lifestyle while meeting new friends and building self-confidence.
The Boulder Kids Triathlon is a non-competitive event for kids ages 3-15. The kids are divided into 6 waves based on their age. Each wave will completely finish the swim, and most of the bike, before the next wave enters the water. This will allow parents and spectators to catch all of the races. We do not time the event – all participants are winners just by completing the triathlon!
- Saturday, August 9, 2008.
- The race takes place at the Boulder Reservoir, located at 5100 51st Street, about one mile north of Jay Road. There will be no charge for racers entering the Reservoir before 7:00am.
- The Boulder Kids Triathlon now in its 12th year, is ideal for the young athlete. In this un-timed event, all kids are truly winners. The distance of each race is calculated so that each child will be able to cross the finish line unaided and feel a great sense of accomplishment. Participation for our Kids Triathlon will be limited to the first 500 registrants.
The 5430 Kids Triathlon will be complete with all the bells and whistles of a quality, premiere event:
- A weekend Expo at the Rez (set up on Saturday for the 5430 Long Course)
- Great race shirts
- Each participant will also receive a finisher’s medal, a swim cap, and a race goody bag
- Professional race announcer
- Post race bananas, bagels and cookies
- Music
- and, of course, awesome, fantastic volunteers
- The 5430 Boulder Triathlon Series has designated the ALS Therapy Development Institute (ALS TDI) as our official charity. ALS TDI has a clear mission of finding effective treatments for persons with ALS. The organization and its work can be reviewed by clicking here. Our commitment to ALS was greatly deepened when one of our family of racers – John Stermer – was diagnosed with ALS in September, 2004. Additionally, we became friends with Jon Blais who was the first person with ALS to complete the Hawaii Ironman. Both men have succumbed to the disease, but their spirits will always be with us. Donations can be made as you complete registration. Processing fees will not be added to your specified amount (your event receipt can be used for your tax purposes). Please help us out on this incredibly worthy mission.
